July presented us with multiple weather-related challenges in the public spaces – from collapsing steps, to burst pipes, water supply disruptions and many streetlight outages. The CID team reacted swiftly in each instance, ensuring that issues and defects in public infrastructure were reported to the City as soon as possible – and escalated to the Ward Councillor and other City officials when needed. Many of these faults were detected and reported during the night-time hours by our team.
This is what CIDs are able to do within their mandate – report and escalate, follow up and keep the community apprised. We can’t effect fixes to City infrastructure, nor do we have the power to override City Service Level Agreements to demand quicker turnaround times. it’s important that the community understand the frameworks under which CIDs are established and allowed to deliver programmes and services.
We reported 4 sewage related incidents, 10 faulty streetlights and 7 different water related issues this month. We also filled 817 bags with litter from the public spaces, and our Law Enforcement Offices issued 141 fines for various offences, ranging from drinking in public, to driving under the influence, not stopping at stop signs and driving unlicenced vehicles.
Our teams are currently gearing up for the spring / summer season and we’ll be updating you on various operational changes and improvements in the months ahead.
We look forward to welcoming you to our AGM, on Tuesday the 16th of September 2025 at 16h00 at the CID offices.
