About the Clifton CID
Overview
The Clifton City Improvement District was established in 2023, after being approved at a Council sitting held on 25th May 2023. Working in the public spaces of Clifton, we provide a public safety service, cleaning and greening services on the streets and in the parks, as well as outreach services to vulnerable community members. In addition to our core programmes, we’ll be scoping and activating a range of projects in the coming years, all designed to improve the public spaces for all who live and visit here. We work closely with a range of departments in the City.
We’re a City Improvement District (special rating area), funded by property owners in a defined area of Clifton. Governed by the Municipal Property Rates Act and relevant bylaws, we focus on providing top-up services to those delivered by the City of Cape Town. Please see links to Policy and Bylaw.

What is a CID?
A non-profit company, the Clifton CID operates with its own board of directors and liaises across both the public and private sectors, working together with each to develop, promote and manage the Clifton area.
The Board of Directors is accountable to the community for good governance and to ensure that the CID rate collected from ratepayers is spent wisely, in the best interest of all who live and visit Clifton and in line with the City’s SRA policy.
The Board of Directors provides strategic direction and prepares proposed budgets and plans for approval by the CID members at the annual general meeting (AGM). The AGM takes place in the last quarter of each calendar year.
