Happy 2025, everyone!
Clifton enjoyed beautiful weather during December 2024, which brought lots of visitors to the area. The CID team was hard at work, doing our best to keep the area clean and safe for all. We were fortunate to have 18 Trainee Law Enforcement Officers deployed to Clifton, who had good impact in terms of visibility, crime prevention and bylaw enforcement.
Significantly, we only recorded 2 crime incidents during December, down from 19 reported in December 2023. Our public safety team responded to 267 CCTV alerts, our law enforcement officers issued 102 fines and with the support of law enforcement trainees as well as our public safety team, SAPS, Metro, and the wider law enforcement community, 953 units of alcohol were prevented from being consumed on the beaches and in the public spaces.
Our plain clothes spotters had a significant impact on safety in the public spaces, by alerting the public safety team to issues, as well as identifying bylaw violations. We had close to 100 engagements with people in order to advise them about the bylaws related to ball sports on 4th beach, also when dogs could be on the beaches. Happily, this year, almost everyone we spoke to understood and was friendly to the team.
We removed close to 1.5 tons of rubbish during December 2024, taking pressure off the City’s Solid Waste team and reported 25 infrastructure faults, including sewage leaks, burst pipes and overflowing drains.
For us, the month flew by, and we’re looking forward to a happy January!
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
