Clifton and Glen Beach enjoyed relative peace during November 2024.
The Clifton CID team was hard at work, filling 1085 bags of rubbish from the public spaces, reporting almost 40 infrastructure faults and attending to numerous bylaw violations – 61% of these being for alcohol and substance use related issues. The CID funded law enforcement officers issued 169 fines – with almost a third related to drinking in public.
Our control room and surveillance centre issued 166 alerts to the public safety team for responses. In one instance of mobile phone theft, our surveillance team identified the suspect and our public safety officers located her – but due to her young age (younger than 12), no action could be taken.
December is here and we have increased our deployment for the season, including plain clothes spotters whose role is key – they are another layer of eyes and ears on the beaches and the public spaces and have already shown impact in identifying suspicious people and directing law enforcement towards people committing bylaw breaches.
We said a happy goodbye to our community stewards, who after participating in our work-based rehabilitation programme since October 2023, have secured mainstream employment. Our thanks again to our social development partner, Ignisive, for walking the journey with this team!
The CID teams are ready for the festive season!
We wish those of you celebrating in December the happiest of holidays. To those of you travelling – be safe and enjoy your break.
Looking forward to 2025!
