We had a run of busy weekends in October. Matric valedictories, high school “ditch” days and some good weather saw the beaches fill up – and unfortunately, bylaw violations increased significantly. The CID public safety team and our law enforcement officers continued to have impact – with law enforcement issuing 77 fines and removing 361 units of alcohol from the beaches. Support from law enforcement and metro police on 2 weekends saw a further 241 units of alcohol prevented from getting to the beaches. Our control room sent out 130 alerts to the public safety team for them to investigate and attend to – related to bylaws, suspicious behaviour, and illegal trading.
Our cleaning team’s work also increased this month in the public spaces – with 1.2 tons of rubbish being uplifted from the public spaces and a further 1/3 ton being removed from the green belts and along the coastline.
We held a successful AGM on the 29th of October 2024 – and obtained member approval for the proposed boundary extension (read more here). Whilst there is much work still to be done to get the approval ready for Council, we’ve had loads of support from property owners in the proposed extension area and look forward to hosting public meetings shortly to unpack the project in more detail.
Here’s what we’ve been up to:
There’s been some very recent changes at CID Board level, and the Board now comprises Anthony Schneiderman as Chair, Allan Cawood as Vice Chair, Paul Boynton as Treasurer with Iaan van Heerden and Kevin Vermaak. The Board will co-opt additional members in due course.
Wishing you a happy November!
