Hello spring!
Sunnier weather brought the crowds to Clifton in September 2024 – recording 90 bylaw violations, with over 70% being related to alcohol. The CID public safety team completed 13 proactive actions, and our Law Enforcement Officers issued 70 fines / notices. Our cleaning teams continued to keep Clifton neat, uplifting 1 8 tons of rubbish from the public spaces.
It took 4 months and just over 4 000 bags, but the site previously occupied by street-based people below Kloof Road is finally clean! Our thanks go to the City’s Recreation and Parks department for assisting in removing the final large pieces of scrap on the 27th of September 2024.
Here’s what we achieved in August 2024
Our Annual General Meeting will take place on Tuesday 29th of October 2024 at 15h00 in the CID offices. Please visit https://www.cliftoncid.co.za/2024-agm/ for all relevant information and documents.
We’ve had some difficulty on the beaches in the past few weeks and the CID is taking steps to ensure that the Clifton community concerns reach the right level of City officials so that more preventative actions can be taken by the relevant directorates. This past Valedictory weekend was a good example of what can be achieved if a bit of advance warning is received.
The collaboration with various agencies – including Law Enforcement, Metro and SAPS – seems to have contributed to a safe environment for beachgoers. The proactive measures taken were:
- 60 Metro, law enforcement and SAPS officers deployed on both Friday and Saturday, backed up by Traffic, who operated a Vehicle Check Point on Victoria Road;
- All staircases were manned, and all those coming to the beach were searched;
- 12 Music boxes and 115 units of alcohol were confiscated before these reached the beaches;
- Metro Police were also deployed on Sunday, which was of great assistance in ensuring that the beach was enjoyable for everyone.
The good news is there were no reported incidents, and the CID will continue working with the City to address community concerns, to request that resources are deployed proactively and that the bylaws are enforced.
Our neighbours at the Camps Bay CID implemented their cleaning and public safety programmes in September 2024. If you’re in Camps Bay and need assistance in the public space, please call or WhatsApp the Camps Bay CID control room on 087 223 2864.
Looking forward to seeing you at the AGM!
