Hello there!

July by the numbers:

Cleaning and urban maintenance programme update:

The CID continually reviews and assesses the effectiveness of our programmes and the service providers tasked with the delivery of same.  After an in-depth review of our cleaning and urban maintenance programming, the Board determined that a new service provider should be contracted to take the programme forward.

We’re pleased to announce that Essential Cleaning Services was appointed as the CID’s service provider following an open call for proposals and a thorough review of submissions by the Board in terms of both the CID’s own procurement policy as well as the CID policy and bylaw.

Essential Cleaning Services come with many years of CID experience and are currently contracted by 4 other sides besides Clifton.  They commenced services on the 5th of August 2026 and have already made an impact in the public spaces of Clifton – whilst also realising that we’re a CID precinct like no other with very different challenges and needs to what they’ve dealt with at the other CIDs.

We’re looking forward to doing great things together!

Notice of electrical work planned from 22h00 on 22nd August 2026 to 06h00 on 23rd August 2026:

Statement from Councillor Nicola Jowell

“The City will shortly be undertaking important maintenance work on the electricity network supplying Camps Bay, Clifton, Bantry Bay and parts of Sea Point & Fresnaye.

Residents may recall the widespread power interruption a few weeks ago, when electricity was restored relatively quickly. While the immediate fault was resolved, investigations identified an issue with the substation busbar and associated protection systems. Unfortunately, this is not something that can simply be left, as the underlying cause still needs to be identified and permanently resolved to prevent future outages.

I fully appreciate that the planned power interruption will be disruptive to a large number of residents and businesses. The work has therefore been scheduled overnight to minimise the impact as far as possible, although we recognise that no time is ever convenient. My apologies to everyone who will be affected.

During the outage, technical teams will carry out a series of tests and simulations to determine the root cause of the fault. This may include replacing components such as the busbars, reprogramming protection systems, and undertaking any other work necessary to ensure the long-term reliability of the network.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while this essential maintenance is carried out. The teams will work as quickly as possible to restore electricity safely and minimise the duration of the outage.”

Annual General Meeting 2026:

The CID will be holding its AGM at 16h00 on Wednesday 16th of September 2026 at the CID offices.  Please keep a lookout for notices and announcements in this regard.  We look forward to sharing our recent impact, also to looking forward to the years to come for the CID and the community.

Wishing you a happy August!
