6 June 2025

The number of unhoused people coming into Clifton and Glen beach increased significantly in May 2025 – our public safety team recorded 138 contacts with this community.  Our public safety team remained focussed on ensuring that people moved through the area and did not settle in to sleep or commit any other bylaw offences.  This trend is no different to what is happening in other neighbourhoods in Cape Town, as displacement activities and evictions from public open space continue.

Our law enforcement officers focussed on traffic violations in May, tackling illegal parking, dangerous driving, failure to obey traffic signs and signals, and unroadworthy vehicles.

Our urban maintenance team tackled illegal graffiti and stickers all over Clifton and Glen Beach, in addition to keeping the public spaces clean.

We worked with the Ward Councillor to escalate burst pipes, faulty lights and damaged road and pavement surfaces.

As winter settles in, please know that our teams will still be hard at work, keeping Clifton and Glen Beach safe and clean.

Enjoy the month ahead!
