Hello there!
February was a calmer month in the CID precinct, giving everyone in the CID team a chance to draw breath after a busy festive season.
Our programmes continued to deliver impact, including the removal of 1.3 tons of litter from the streets and public places, the issuing of 538 fines for various bylaw violations and the arrest of 2 beach vendors who committed card fraud when processing payments. This seems to be an increasing problem, and we urge all beachgoers to carefully check what they are being charged before completing transactions.
We continue to experience issues with street lights, sewage pipe blockages and burst water pipes in the precinct, these issues comprising over 70% of service requests logged by the CID to the City.
February by the numbers:
As I write this, Cape Town has just experienced some of the hottest temperatures on record, and I am so proud of the CID teams who continued to perform their duties 24x7x365 despite really challenging weather conditions. This included preventing 178 units of alcohol from being consumed in the public open space in the past 5 days. Every effort helps towards keeping Clifton safe and enjoyable for everyone.
The yacht, SALT, was seen off our coastline this week too!
Further to community engagements related to fire risks in Clifton and as an expansion of our public safety programme, the CID will be commissioning the development of a fire safety plan for the precinct and will be asking for community inputs in the next few months.
A reminder that the Corona Sunsets Festival 2026 will be taking place on the Edgar Lipsett Oval on Saturday the 21st of March 2026. As per the organisers, the event will run from 12:00 – 23:30 for 6,500 guests.
